Transportation & Mobility

In order to compete with other desired metropolitan areas, creating a safe, reliable and interconnected urban core is paramount in attracting businesses, talent and residents.  Mobility – moving people via heavy rail, light rail and busses, providing protected bike lanes, large sidewalks and enhanced pedestrian crossings and intersections – is key in providing quality of life, improving pedestrian and bicycle safety and reducing harmful greenhouse gasses.  The Miami DDA works with all of our partner agencies – City of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade TPO, Miami-Dade Transit, FDOT, CITT, among others – to provide services, plan for future growth and make Downtown Miami more resilient, equitable and sustainable.

Complete Streets

The goal of this demonstration project was to increase safety and balance modes for pedestrians, bicyclists, businesses, and commuters along the corridor.

Pedestrian Priority Zone (PPZ)

In 2014, both the City and County Commission adopted Pedestrian Priority Zones. The overall goal is to promote enhanced pedestrian comfort and safety through the state-of-the-art design of public rights-of-way and intersections.

Signage & Wayfinding

In partnership with the Miami DDA, the City of Miami’s Office of Capital Improvements manages this project, a comprehensive signage and wayfinding system in Downtown Miami that will assists motorists and pedestrians and help alleviate traffic.

Downtown Miami Bike Network

The improvements of this project include pavement markings, green paint, bicycle boxes, raised concrete curbs, high-emphasis crosswalks, enhanced signage, and parking protected sections.

Freebee On-Demand Service

Downtown Miami is getting a major mobility upgrade designed to make getting around the urban core easier than ever. The Miami DDA, in partnership with Freebee, has introduced six new all-electric vehicles and expanded routes connecting Brickell, the Central Business District and the Arts & Entertainment (A&E) District, creating a simple way for those who live, work and visit Downtown Miami.

Getting around Downtown Miami keeps getting easier. No matter where you’re headed or if you prefer to get there by land or by sea, by car or by bike, there are options for you.

Tri-Rail Downtown Link

The SFRTA, in coordination with multiple partners, is extending Tri-Rail commuter rail service to provide new direct service from its northernmost station at Mangonia Park in Palm Beach County to its southernmost station in Miami Dade County at the “MiamiCentral Station” in Downtown Miami.

Waterborne Transportation

Very few downtowns have the benefit of being located on water bodies as beautiful and varied as Biscayne Bay and the Miami River. The number of existing streets that terminate at the water, along with large areas of public parks and river/bay walks located along the water’s edge allow for many points of access to the water as well as a variety of uses, activities and views along it.
