Urban Planning
Who are We?
Utilizing the 2025 Downtown Miami Masterplan as our framework 2025 Downtown Miami Master Plan(PDF, 25MB), the Miami Downtown Development Authority’s (DDA) Urban Planning team manages the strategic implementation, program development, design, planning, and research of urban planning, land use, transportation and environmental initiatives. With input and collaboration from our partner agencies and stakeholders, our projects promote the best in mobility, placemaking, and urban design to make Downtown the place people want to do business, call home, and explore all that Miami has to offer.
Becoming the Epicenter of the Americas
Over the next five to ten years, we are striving to complete the remaining goals outlined in our 2025 Downtown Miami Master Plan. From an urban planning perspective, the Master Plan includes enhancements to community spaces and streets, expansion of our transportation and mobility network, and activation of our public spaces with art, outdoor dining, and green/open space.
In March of 2016, the Miami DDA Board of Directors revisited the 2025 Master Plan to review the progress and reassessed its main goals. After the review, the board voted to refocus the five main goals of the Master Plan. The updated goals include:
- Enhance Our Position as the Business Epicenter of the Americas
- Heighten the Experience of Arts, Culture & Entertainment
- Create Great Urban Public Spaces (Foster a Great Public Realm)
- Promote Transit, Connectivity, and Mobility
- Improve Quality of Life and Livability
The Miami DDA is currently planning for a 2050 Downtown Miami Master Plan Update, with a specific focus on our Central Business District (CBD) and the Flagler District within the CBD. The goal is to strengthen Downtown Miami's position as the most livable urban center in the world, and a urban core that is rich with commerce, culture, and community.
As soon as our consultant team receives the Notice to Proceed (NTP), we will begin stakeholder charrettes, community meetings, and surveys to collect public input. Please stay tuned for those notices.
