2025 Downtown Miami Master Plan

Overview
Sixteen years ago, and in the midst of a worldwide economic recession, the Miami DDA and its Board of Directors spearheaded the 2025 Downtown Miami Master Plan.
The goal of the 2025 Master Plan was to connect and maximize the potential of the Central Business District (CBD), the Arts & Entertainment (A+E) District, Brickell, and Miami’s celebrated waterfront. Building upon previous plans and studies, this Master Plan provides specific action-oriented implementation items that will increase the livability of downtown, encourage private sector investment, and ensure the proper investment of public dollars. This Master Plan outlined a series of projects that support the goal of transforming Downtown Miami into the Epicenter of the Americas. Recommendations were distinctive, feasible, and implementable. The Master Plan was not intended to be another passive plan or study, but rather a working document that laid out an aggressive course for delivery with catalytic action items that could be launched immediately.
The 2025 Master Plan also recommended specific cross-agency projects that supported the goal of transforming Downtown Miami into the Epicenter of the Americas. The Vision Statement of the 2025 Master Plan was: " Downtown Miami is the business, social, and cultural epicenter of the Americas, which capitalizes on its unique position as a major world city in a tropical waterfront environment."

Becoming the Epicenter of the Americas
Over the last ten years, our agency strove to complete the remaining goals outline in our 2025 Downtown Miami Master Plan. From an urban planning perspective, the Master Plan includes enhancements to community spaces and streets, expansion of our transportation and mobility network, and activation of our public spaces with art, outdoor dining, and green/open space.
In March of 2016, the Miami DDA Board of Directors revisited the 2025 Master Plan to review the progress and reassessed its main goals. After the review, the board voted to refocus the five main goals of the Master Plan. The updated goals include:
- Enhance Our Position as the Business Epicenter of the Americas
- Heighten the Experience of Arts, Culture & Entertainment
- Create Great Urban Public Spaces (Foster A Great Public Realm)
- Promote Transit, Connectivity, and Mobility
- Improve Quality of Life and Livability
Status
- Based on the success of goals outlined in the 2025 Master Plan, Downtown Miami in 2025 is quickly becoming a world-class city that people, families, and businesses are flocking to in greater numbers by the day. But as Downtown Miami rapidly develops, new challenges have emerged that need to be addressed, and a new roadmap with a clear vision needs to be created to guide economic, community, environmental, and urban development opportunities.
- The Miami DDA is planning for a 2050 Downtown Miami Master Plan Update, with a specific focus on our Central Business District (CBD) and the Flagler District within the CBD will strengthen Downtown Miami's position as the most livable urban center in the world, and an urban core that is rich with commerce, culture, and community.
- The Miami DDA has procured a qualified team of experienced Master Planning and Urban Planning professionals to provide a full range of Master Planning, Urban Planning, Economic Development, Community Outreach, Resilience, and Transportation services.
- Public outreach stakeholder input will begin as soon as we issue a Notice to Proceed (NTP) to our consultant team. We will notify all public meetings as soon as they are scheduled.
